My Story Marketing- What is it?

When you look at all the advertising on the internet, do you think of Times Square in New York with all the loud flashing lights and ads. crying out for your attention. There is so much to look at that it is hard to focus on one at a time. It would have to be something pretty interesting to capture your attention and keep your focus.

The advertising about online businesses are much the same. So many and so loud that it is easy to tune them all out, until- you find that one that is different from all the rest.

Now, the thing I don’t get, is there is so much information about how to work the networking business properly, but still 95% of people are doing it all wrong.

People do not want to join a business- they want to join real people and leaders

“Everyone is looking for their WIZARD to help them in some MAGICAL way.” (Dan Kennedy)

How do you become that wizard that people are looking for?

If you have heard Perry Belcher’s “party” analogy, then you can see how moronic it is to run around telling your friends about how great your business is and ow much money you make and why you should be jumping on the bandwagon, then you will get pretty sick of them very quickly.

It is just not the thing to do, but that is EXACTLY what 95% of people do on Facebook, YouTube and all other web2.0 sites. And it Doesn’t work!

If you were making new friends you would be telling about family and life experiences. Work might come up later in the conversation, but you have to get to know them a bit first and establish a relationship.

You must first establish trust through your story and build a relationship before you get into business discussions.

People are desperate for experts and leaders in the industry. If you look at it from a medical point of view, when you are sick, you go to see a doctor, not the bottle of Advil. Advil won’t cure your problem if you have a broken leg. You have to go to a physician to set it properly.

Same can be said in business. If you are looking to build a business from home and generate traffic and leads, would you go to a company like Herbalife? No, you would go to a lead generation company first that is going to teach you how to generate traffic and leads for your business.

Then, just like the party, when you have established yourself as a leader, you would then talk about your Herbalife business when people ask you,  “What do you do for a living.”

Do you know your story? If not, then that is half your problem. You have to have your story out there for people to relate to.

Stay tuned to the blog for steps on how to generate your story.

This is going to be a quick and easy post, but with such value that will make you instantly recognizable and remembered by all your Facebook friends.

The problem with Facebook is almost everyone adds new friends based on Facebook’s suggested friends. There is hardly ever any communication between each other and you have just added another person who is trying to pitch you their products. This is how you can have 1000 friends and find people with 700 friends in common.

Facebook is very impersonal now and was never designed to be that way. It is much the same as Twitter in that it gets very little conversion to leads and sales because there is so much spam.

That is, of course, if you are doing what 97% of the people on Facebook are doing.

But, here is your chance to do something to stand out from the crowd and generate hundreds of leads from your Facebook followers.

Step 1.

Work on your profile. Put as much detail as possible about you and your family and likes and dislikes. This gives people a chance to relate to you in some way.

This is not a place to pitch your business, but should have a call to action to learn more about you from your blog.

You website urls. should be displayed on the side. You are working at making personal connections and establishing relationships. If people like you, they will be more interested in finding out what you do.

Step 2.

Join groups that relate to what you are marketing. If you are trying to find people interested in Attraction Marketing, then look for groups filled with these people. If you are interested in selling to soccer fans, join groups about soccer.

Step 3.

Send a personal welcome VIDEO when people join you on Facebook. This way, you become a “real” person, rather than a picture and a message. If you do this, you become instantly different than 99% of people on Facebook and stand out as personable.

Step 4.

Send a birthday video to the people on the list on their birthday. Sing them happy birthday, or leave a funny message that captures their attention. There is no selling here, but you can almost guarantee that they will go to your profile and see what you are all about and will recognize you from that point on as the person who sent them a funny birthday video.

Step 5.

Create your own groups. By having a group following you can send your message out to hundreds or possibly thousands of people at one time, rather than message them individually. It is like having an email list, but it can be a lot more responsive if you are providing value. A great theme is how to make more money and create leads using Facebook.  You know all your followers are going to need that knowledge.

The whole point of these steps are to be recognized as someone different in the mess that is Facebook. It is a extremely valuable tool if you are using the right tactics and you will get far better results when you become a real person instead of a spammer. It’s all about the relationship. I could make more money from a list of 200 people that I have a relationship with and see me as a likable person who provides value than you could with a list of 2000 people who don’t recognize you, or worse yet, recognize you as a spammer.

One final bonus step.

Take five minutes a few times throughout the day and hit “like”  or leave comments on the posts you like and agree with. The more response a post gets, the higher it is ranked and it shows up on the Newsfeed as something worth looking at. This is great for plugging your industry, so don’t be afraid to leave positive feedback on other people’s posts that are selling the same thing as you. Don’t look at them as competition. Look at them as partners.

For instance, if I am marketing TVI as my main business, I would look for other people marketing TVI as well and leave them good feedback. As so many of us have the same friends in common it promotes my business on the newsfeed that goes out to everyone. When people see me leaving positive comments and the business always getting recognition and always on their newsfeed they will look more into it. Now, who do you thing they are going to sign up with if they like the opportunity? The guy who is spamming the business, or the one who sent them a funny birthday video?

Facebook News feed Likes Likes

Facebook newsfeed ranks peoples comments based on how many people like them and leave return comments. They show up more prevalently on other peoples pages. So the people you like, or the business you want to promote should be getting lots of response from others to rank higher.

This is a good chance to push your business or industry. The more people see about your business, the more weight it carries. So liking someone else’s comment, even if they are in the same business and industry as you will help them, but will also help you as people will have seen your business advertised by others and give your comments more authority.

This is also another great opportunity for communities within a community to help each other.

For instance, www.EasyInstantFeeback.com is a community of people who review and comment on other people’s blog posts and videos. They are encouraged to add Facebook and Youtube friends too. It is a tight community and another thing they can do is like the other members Facebook posts.

Just another way to get everything you want by helping others.

It doesn’t take much time to click on like when you see a friendly members post or to help your industry out by promoting it for everyone.

Every little action helps. So start doing it today.

We serve God by serving others.

Here is a great message from Rick Warren that is true for everyday life as well as business.

“Whoever wants to be great must become a servant.” (Mark 10:43)

We serve God by serving others.

The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige, and position. If you can demand service from others, you’ve arrived. In our self-serving culture with its me-first mentality, acting like a servant is not a popular concept.

Jesus, however, measured greatness in terms of service, not status. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not how many people serve you.

This is so contrary to the world’s idea of greatness that we have a hard time understanding it, much less practicing it. The disciples argued about who deserved the most prominent position, and 2,000 years later, Christian leaders still jockey for position and prominence in churches, denominations, and parachurch ministries.

Thousands of books have been written on leadership, but few on servanthood. Everyone wants to lead; no one wants to be a servant. We would rather be generals than privates. Even Christians want to be “servant-leaders,” not just plain servants. But to be like Jesus is to be a servant. That’s what he called himself.

While knowing your shape is important for serving God, having the heart of a servant is even more important. Remember, God shaped you for service, not for self-centeredness. Without a servant’s heart, you will be tempted to misuse your shape for personal gain. You will also be tempted to use it as an excuse to exempt yourself from meeting some needs.

God often tests our hearts by asking us to serve in ways we’re not shaped. If you see a man fall into a ditch, God expects you to help him out, not say, “I don’t have the gift of mercy or service.”

While you may not be gifted a particular task, you may be called to do it if no one who is gifted at it is around. Your primary ministry should be in the area of your shape, but your secondary service is wherever you’re needed at the moment.

Your shape reveals your ministry, but your servant’s heart will reveal your maturity. No special talent or gift is required to stay after a meeting to pick up trash or stack chairs. Anyone can be a servant. All it requires is character.

It is possible to serve in church for a lifetime without ever being a servant. You must have a servant’s heart.

How can you know if you have the heart of a servant?

Jesus said, “You can tell what they are by what they do” (Matthew 7:16 CEV).
